Rebeca Gusmão is a former Brazilian competitive swimmer. She was born on August 5, 1984, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gusmão started swimming at the age of four, and she quickly progressed through the ranks to become one of Brazil's most successful swimmers of all time.
During her career, Gusmão represented Brazil in many international competitions, including the Olympics, World Championships, and Pan American Games. Her first major international competition was the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where she placed 17th in the 200-meter freestyle.
Gusmão's greatest success came in 2003 when she won six gold medals and broke several national and South American records at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She later received the Best Female Athlete award at the games.
However, in 2007, Gusmão's career came to a halt when she tested positive for the steroid Stanozolol. She was banned from competition for two years and retired from swimming in 2010.
Since her retirement, Gusmão has pursued a career in law, graduating from the Universidade Estácio de Sá law school in 2015. She also served as a commentator during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
